Another Group Study Session

Posted by Dinky Mind on Sunday, May 31, 2009 in , ,
Ritz came at my place yesterday. We had to study Course ABC, but we ended up studying Course XYZ! And that's how our day went:

  • we messed up the room with our books.
  • turned on the AC.
  • acted sane for a lil while.
  • and then got back to our normal selves :P
  • decided what to study.
  • wasted time
  • studied a lil.
  • sent bro to get photocopies.
  • had lunch like we've not eaten anything in years =D
  • waited for chai time
  • Ritz ate almost all the Rainbow Cupcakes and didn't let me eat =( :P
  • Nav got pissed off that we didn't let him know we're having a GS session at my place
  • and he started crying :D
  • we then started talking about cakes and I showed her Lala's cake book.
  • And then we saw flower arrangement books.
  • and started talking about flower exhibitions.
  • then I brought my Mac delight
  • and we started watching songs.
  • and then we took (more than 100) pictures - all silly :P
  • then Abeer came and we took even more pictures =D
  • then Ritz' momma came and I went to drop her at the gate.
And then I studied... :P

And this is our scary side :P

Pictures Without A Smile

Posted by Dinky Mind on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in , , , ,

I need a few passport-size photographs for university. The stock of my photographs (taken 6 years ago) finished just a few days back. Thankfully I'm still the same after these six long years, as opposed to Momin :P But sadly, I lost the negative of those pictures :( So, today I had to go to the photographer for new passport-size photos.

Either the photographer uncle had some parallax error with his eyes or there really is a problem with my neck. I sit with a straight neck, but the photographers always say, "Beta, keep your neck straight...and blah blah blah". And then when I struggle to keep it straight, they go like, "Now please tilt your neck a lil on the right". I mean what the heck!!!! And then, when I tilt it on MY right, they angrily say, "Betaaaa, on MY right side!" Such things make me so furious! I grit teeth and get ready for the damn photograph. :@

Another problem that I face is of my head-scarf. The photographers want my eyes and eyebrows to be prominent in the picture. And my scarf hides half of my not-so-long or beautiful eyebrows. And I find it really annoying to adjust my scarf. Because if I do, I feel my face to be popping out of the scarf :/

I remember when I went for my Driver's License photo. The guy did not bother to inform me and clicked the camera. I've got THE worst picture on my license! And I have to keep the damn thing with me for a good number of years :/

I Need Some Sleep

Posted by Dinky Mind on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 in , ,

I'm so sleep deprived these days :/ Daily I sleep around 2 am or so :/ Today I got home around 6 :/ Final exams are starting in a week and I'm not a teeny bit prepared :/ Dayum! Kia banay ga mera? It seems like all my effort of the past 4 years will go down the drain. I don't want to get the same kind of GPA I got in the first semester - 3.25 - the lowest ever! This time I've got just 4 courses. Yes, JUST four! And I don't feel like studying for them. Those who know what I am up to these days will definitely pray for me and my next 2-3 years :D All those thinking otherwise should shun those silly ideas :D

Oh, guess what, I made these coconut-chocolate tarts on Bushi's birthday. *sigh* Lil brothers are so annoying and so demanding =( And sistas like me always whine and then happily fulfill all of their demands too :P *hah* Silly we :D

Okay, okay, okay. Now get back to the point. I said I needed some sleep.

So, chee ya all.

*yawns*

Cheerio folks =)

PS: That's our uni catty =)
PPS: My ultra silly, stupid, foolish (that's enough!) brothers ate all the tarts! I just got to eat 2, wo bhee yesterday =( *boohoo*

Date: May 24, 2009 (Earth Standard Time)

Shweetest Papa,

Today was Bushi's birthday. And I made these cookies and cheese-stuffed pizza, AND coconut-chocolate tarts :D How do the cookies look like? Cutie na? I was itching to make them the day I saw this recipe on Leemz blog. And today I just did :D When 4 months ago you brought these cutie cookie cutters, I was dying to have a cookie recipe and use those cutters. And today I just did :) Although after making these cookies and tarts I could barely stand, but I totally enjoyed trying out these new recipes =)

And I'm missing you way too much today. =( Every time I make something new or scrumptious I miss you. You always used to love it and would appreciate it with a pat on my back =( I wish you were here. =( I'm sending these cookies. Do share them with your friends and let me know if they like it or not =) I'd send more if they do =D

Keep praying for your silly daughter =)

An Unexpected Lunch

Posted by Dinky Mind on Friday, May 22, 2009 in , , ,
Around a million weeks ago, Ritz and I planned to go out for lunch with Jaj and Sana. But Jajo and Sana are two hell-busy women, and they aren't a big fan of Subway either, so our plan would flop every time Ritz and I would chime to go to Subway.

Today we had to pay our fee at Faysal Bank, Gulshan branch. After our classes (around 11:30 am), Ritz and I quickly left for the bank. On our way, we passed by Subway. And as usual I whined to have Subway. Before I could throw tantrums (while driving), Ritz assured me that on our way back, we'd surely have it. :D So, we went to the bank and got our work done in 10 minutes. Then we headed to Subway and ordered Chicken Tikka and Chicken BBQ sandwich. And we ordered it in Parmesan Oregano bread. Oh yum yummm yummmm. And we got it extra spicy (and without sliced tomatoes and cucumber :/) with extra yummy pickles and a very generous amont of sauces! [Heck! I'm feeling hungry again :/]. We ate it without uttering a word. Dayum! We were so hungry and were totally loving it. [Every time I eat a Subway, I say the same thing] :P

It's Chicken Teriyaki sandwich (shown above) is the bestttt! But next time, I'm gonna try the Roasted Chicken breast sandwich on the same Parmesan Oregano bread! Sssss.... I wanna go again to Subway... Right NOW!!!!

Okay, okay, okay. Back to the Subway now. Oh, and did I tell you it's so much fun to lick your sauce-dipped fingers? Yummm!!! :P Do try it someday. Just don't care who's watching you or not. Enjoy your food your way! ;) Oh, and after we had our heavenly scrumptious lunch, I dropped Ritz at her place and headed home. =D

An Interesting Customer Complaint

Posted by Dinky Mind on Thursday, May 21, 2009 in , , , ,

This is a real story that happened between the customer of General Motors and its customer-care executive. A complaint was received by the Pontiac Division of General Motors: This is the second time I have written to you, and I don't blame you for not answering me, because I sounded crazy, but it is a fact that we have a tradition in our family of ice cream for dessert after dinner each night. But the kind of ice cream varies, so every night, after we've eaten the whole family votes on which kind of ice cream we should have and I drive down to the store to get it.

It's also a fact that I recently purchased a new Pontiac and since then my trips to the store have created a problem. You see, every time I buy a vanilla ice cream, when I start back from the store my car won't start.

If I get any other kind of ice cream, the car starts just fine.

I want you to know I'm serious about this question, no matter how silly it sounds: "What is there about a Pontiac that makes it not start when I get vanilla ice cream, and easy to start whenever I get any other kind?"

The Pontiac President was understandably skeptical about the letter, but sent an engineer to check it out anyway. The latter was surprised to be greeted by a successful, obviously well educated man in a fine neighborhood. He had arranged to meet the man just after dinnertime, so the two hopped into the car and drove to the ice cream store. It was vanilla ice cream that night and, sure enough, after they came back to the car, it wouldn't start.

The engineer returned for three more nights. The first night, they got chocolate. The car started. The second night, he got strawberry. The car started. The third night he ordered vanilla. The car failed to start.

Now the engineer, being a logical man, refused to believe that this man's car was allergic to vanilla ice cream. He arranged, therefore, to continue his visits for as long as it took to solve the problem.

And towards this end he began to take notes, he jotted down all sorts of data: time of day, type of gas used, time to drive back and forth etc. In a short time, he had a clue: the man took less time to buy vanilla than any other flavor. Why? The answer was in the layout of the store. Vanilla, being the most popular flavor, was in a separate case at the front of the store for quick pickup. All the other flavors were kept in the back of the store at a different counter where it took considerably longer to check out the flavor. Now, the question for the engineer was why the car wouldn't start when it took less time. Once time became the problem and not the vanilla ice-cream, the engineer quickly came up with the answer: "Vapor lock". It was happening every night; but the extra time taken to get the other flavors allowed the engine to cool down sufficiently to start. When the man got vanilla, the engine was still to hot for the vapor lock to dissipate. Remember: Even crazy-looking problems are sometimes real and all problems seem to be simple only when we find the solution with a cool thinking.

Moral: Don't just say its "IMPOSSIBLE" without putting in sincere effort

PS: Thanks Kadnan bhai =)

A little Improvement

Posted by Dinky Mind on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 in , , , ,

Went to the range today after a long time. Met the new coach, who asked me some million and 2 times why can't I not come to the range in the morning. *sigh* So today I used the smaller target and tried my shots on it. In the picture below, you can see the smaller one placed on the larger one. Shot 7 bullets. One of them went out of the board, and 6 made it to the target :D Had I practised on the larger target board, all of my bullets would've made it to the black rings. But from now on, I'd be using the smaller ones. These are the ones for Rifle shooters. So I need to focus more on placing my bullets in the black rings.

Oh, and I did tell you we had such an awesome day. We took heck silly pictures. Lol :D Whenever I take my Apple pie to the university, my friends go nuts and then we take hundreds of pictures - all silly and stupid :D

Thant's all for today =D

Somethings ARE Impossible

Posted by Dinky Mind on Sunday, May 17, 2009 in ,
When my father passed away, I didn't want to believe it. I did not cry because I did not accept it. But on the second day, when the awful truth began to dawn upon me, I locked myself up in my room and cried like anything. I so much wished to have him back - just for a few hours.

At that time I realized that no matter how much I pray or how hard I ask Him for his return, he won't ever come back. He's gone for ever. But that night, my father did come. My wish to meet him for a few hours did come true. My ecstasy had no bounds. I was so dead thankful to Allah. I was so glad to have him back. I knew now that he's back, I can talk to him for as long as I want to. There he was sitting in an immaculate dress with a soft smile on his face.

Me: Where did you go?
Dad: Nowhere. I was right here.
Me: Then why did I not see you for so many days?

And he did not reply and vanished. And at that very moment I woke up from my dream. Everything was gone. He was gone. I felt like I had been electrocuted. He was there with me. He had to be there with me for ever. And again, the bitter reality bit me, and brought me back to the real world. It was 4 am, and I was crying alone to have him back. There were so many things I had to tell him about - about my shooting lessons, about those Rainbow cupcakes, about my studies. I wanted to watch the talk shows with him, to take him out to the relatives', and hear him secretly admire about my driving with mum. I don't know for how long I cried or when I slept. But all I know is Somethings ARE Impossible!

Thank you!

Posted by Dinky Mind on Saturday, May 16, 2009 in , ,

Even though I clutch my blanket
and growl when the alarm rings.
Thank you Allah, that I can hear.
There are many who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed
against the morning light as possible.
Thank you Allah, that I can see.
There are many who are blind.

Even though I huddle in my bed
and put off rising.
Thank you Allah, that I have
the strength to rise.
There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of
my day is hectic,
when socks are lost,
toast is burned and tempers are short,
my siblings are so loud.
Thank you Allah for my family.
There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table
never looks like the pictures in magazines
and the menu is at times balanced.
Thank you Allah for the food we have.
There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine
of my study is often monotonous.
Thank you Allah for the opportunity to study.
There are many who have no education.

Thank you Allah for EVERYTHING!

And this reminds me of "Your Handicap and Our Handicap":

I run for miles at a stretch, without once realising what an ordeal it is for you to walk one step. I talk of the red and the blue sky and the silver moon, without thinking of you, who can only see black. To whom his own appearance is a mystery; for whom there is an envelope of darkness and no morning. And when I break my glasses, I complain.

Read more of it here.

We have become ignorant of the little blessings around us. If we start counting them all, life would become so interesting and beautiful =)

Flying Without Wings

Posted by Dinky Mind on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in , ,
I'm in love with this song for I-don't-know how many years. And today when I put my play list on shuffle, this song came up. Oh man, this song kind of infuses life in me. I love it. There was once a time when The Bittersweet Symphony was like that to me. And also "When you say nothing at all" by Ronan Keating. Oh, and how can I forgot that ever-green song, "Stay the Same" by Joey McIntyre.

So here, check out the lyrics of "Flying Without Wings". Or, you can watch the video here. Embedding was not allowed. =(

And this song is the best! It's "This I Swear" by Nick Lachey. And this song always reminds me of this silly friend of mine. I miss you =(

And here's Joey McIntyre. When we bought a new computer (some 2 decades or so ago), I copied this song from SD's PC and loved it. And I still do. And this song always ALWAYS reminds me of him. I miss you =(

Oh well, watch this too =)

I feel so fresh and happy right now =)

Photo Session

Posted by Dinky Mind on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in , , ,
Yesterday we had a photo session at the university, for the Graduates' Directory. And it took our whole day. I don't want to recall it, it was that horrible. We were at the uni around 8:30 am and had a photo shoot at 3 pm. Just imagine our faces - so maasi-like! :/ Plus, the audi's air-conditioning system was acting like a lame ***.

I've got this problem with me. I'm heck punctual. Or well, the max late I get is 10-15 minutes. And yesterday I had to wait for that silly photographer for 5 hours!!! I started having a severe headache. Argh!!! Ritz came late, around 11 am. Sana came late too, around 10:30 am. And I was so pissed at both of them. I had to spend 2 hours (8:30 - 10:30) with my other lame classmates. :/ Why do my silly friends wake up so late? :/

Oh, but the good part of the day was when I presented a box to my sssssilly friends - Ritz and Sana =) I had baked Rainbow cupcakes on Mother's Day for my Mommy dear, and saved these 2 heart-shaped pieces for my 2 stupid friends =) And I gave my Mommy a cutie flower-shaped piece :D She luhvs flowers, but when I took photos of these 2 hearts, she liked it too =) Thanks to my Shweet Daddy who bought these cutie moulds and the muffin tray for me. I miss you loads =(

Oh, and thanks to Leemz for the recipe. =) Luhv you for such a shweet recipe =)

Cheerio folks =)

PS: I hardly ate one cupcake. Bushi ate them all :(
PPS: I'm done with making 1/3 reports. And I feel so happy, I don't want to study anymore :D Hahaha. Prayers needed, cuz finals are starting from June 8th, and by May 25th, I have to submit 2 more reports and have to prepare for 2 presentations *faints* =(

From Your Daughter

Posted by Dinky Mind on Sunday, May 10, 2009 in , ,

As a mother and daughter,
we have a special relationship
that hasn't happened overnight --
it's come through years
of learning, sharing...growing.
I know there have been
times in my life
when I had trouble accepting
the things you were trying
to teach me...
...when I thought you were being
too strict or old-fashioned...
when I thought
you didn't understand.
But I've come to realise
that you understood
all along...
that you were guiding me,
not only with motherly love,
but with your experience
as a woman.

Now I feel so much closer to you.
And more and more
I find new ways
to relate to you...
new feelings to share.
We have so much
in common,
as women...as friends,
and so much
to look forward to
in the years ahead.
Because of all the ways
you've cared,
I know I'm a better person...
I know I'm better prepared
for whatever
life has to offer.

That's the card I made for my Sooper Mom =)

I usually keep cards in my mom's room, lounge, kitchen at night. So yesterday, I finished making this card at 2 am. And kept it in the lounge. Momma Dear loved it so much =) Thanks to me who had to eat all those pistachios in this hot weather, and is now waiting for those silly pimples to pop up on my dinosaur-thick skin =( But I enjoyed every second of making this card!! =) [Glue-gun rules!!] =P Some day I'd post all the cards that I made on the yester- Mother's Day and on her birthdays. =)

Cheerio folks =)

PS: And this txt msg was sent by my bro to ammi:
"When I came home in the rain,
brother asked why you didn't take an umbrella.
Sister advised why you didn't wait till rain stopped.
Father angrily warned, only after getting cold will you realize?
But Mother, while drying my hair, said,
'Stupid rain!! Couldn't it wait till my child came home?"

Combined Study

Posted by Dinky Mind on Saturday, May 09, 2009 in , ,
So I went to Ritzy's place for a group study session today. Nav, Momin and Ali were there too. Nav brought his guitar and we sang a few songs after we got exhausted with studies. Then went downstairs to have lunch. Then we planned our visit to Isloo. That was one fun part =) Tomorrow we have to meet at Momin's place, and we (Nav particularly) kept on asking her about the menu :P So mufta.com we are! :D Oh, and in the end we watched TV, but these silly guys didn't let us watch Filmazia. :D

It was a whole lot of fun today but the power outage irritated us a lot. Thanks to the dead UPS and the funtional generator at Ritzy's place, we survived! :P Ritz kept on serving me LimoPani and in the end I pleaded her that my tummy is begging me to stop torturing it. So, she served me Brownies :D And Momin was as hungry as ever, and she kept on saying with every bite of brownies, "No Ritz, I've had breakfast" :D

I just can't forget this group study. All-girls group-study sessions are THE best! :P They provide a chance to sing in whatever kachra voice you've got. And to dance too :P And to laugh at the silliest jokes you can't crack infront of guy friends, because they make you feel extra silly :D Hahaha. But well, Nav and Ali know we're silly girls and they enjoy making fun of us. And we don't even mind that. We know they are sillier than us :D Lol. Okay, that's stupid now! Oh, and we took silly pictures and made videos of Nav playing the guitar and singing in his heavy voice :D

Well, I end this post here, as I have to go study till we meet tomorrow at Momin's.

Cheerio folks =)

.22 Rifle Shooting

Posted by Dinky Mind on Thursday, May 07, 2009 in ,

Went to the Shooting Range after a lonnnnng time. And I had to wait for an even longer time for the coach (or someone else to accompany me at the Range). So, I issued a .22 Long Rifle, and Miss S. and I went down to the 50-meter Range with 25 bullets each. Sssss! :P Although 25 bullets seem verrrry less, but for a beginner like me they were enough [They usually issue 10-15 bullets to beginners]. .22 rifles are for petite people like me :P So later on, when InshaAllah I'd get command over it, I'd be using the heavier ones. Yummmm! And for that I should start body-building right from today, says Miss S. :P And did I tell you those heavy rifles are so damn cooool?!?!?!

Okay, getting back to the Range now. The rules: We have to lie down on our tummies, position ourselves properly, hold the rifle, focus the target and Bang!!! The golden rule of shooting is, when you lie down and position yourself, don't move until you've fired a considerable number of shots. So when it comes to lying down on tummy, I'm a Kabacha - silly person. I just can't do it! I start getting pain in my back. And I used to move every now and then :/ Anyway, I started aiming at the target and shot a few bullets. My initial shots went in the first ring. But later on, I improved. But even then, my shots were getting place in the sixth ring. There was a problem in the rifle. Positioned its V properly, and the next shot that I hit went straight through the bull's-eye! :D Yahoooo!!!!!! I was soooo dead happy :P I then borrowed 5 bullets from Miss S and started shooting again. It was so much fun!!! I love it!!! =D (Oh, btw, Miss S. is a Pistol shooter). Check the shot! :P

I so much wish I could show my shooting results to Papa. Please Allah, show my Daddy dear these pictures and let me know how happy he is. Thank you =)

Cheerio folks =)

PS: Did I tell you I love myself for hitting a bull's-eye! :P

PPS: I need to focus more on the aiming. My shots are quite dispersed. They need to be clustered in any ring. Check the shots in 6th ring :P That's how shots should be :P

Everyday's a Valentine's Day

Posted by Dinky Mind on Wednesday, May 06, 2009 in , , ,
That's true in our university, and probably in all other universities. I, who goes to university for hardly 2-3 hours daily, miss out 99.9% of those "cool scenes" everyday. Saddening, I know, but thanks to my friends who narrate 100% (plus 50% of mirch-masala) of the story to me. :P

In all these 4 years of my university life, I've never seen anything much weird. People walk while holding hands, or I've even seen them sitting in very close to each other. The architecture of our university is such that one does not find any corners where they can seclude themselves. But have you ever heard this saying, "A man who wants to do something will find a way, a man who does not will find an excuse" :P So you see, there are many "willing" people in our university. They do find hidden spots, or, well many of them like doing the PDA (public display of affection) in the main Foyer (come on guys) or on the entrance stairs (like come onnnnnn)!!

Yesterday, my desire to see the "weirder" couples got fulfilled. No no no, you dirty minds shouldn't think anything bad. The maahol isn't that bad over here (or probably I'm just ignorant of it). Well, coming back to the point. Our class' backdoor opens in a lil gallery (which faces the entrance lawns), and a sophomore couple was sitting there at the corner seats (which are right next to our class door). Each door in our university has a 4"x10" glass slit. Ossy has a habit to see through that slit whenever he's wandering around in the class. I don't have that habit cuz I don't have that tall height :P Anyway, he was peering through the lil slit and called Nav when he saw the funny scenes out in the gallery. Rimel and I were standing near the door and we went over too to see what was so cool about the people sitting outside. :P (I grabbed a chair and stood on it). And what we saw cracked us up so bad! Hahahaha. They were initially holding hands, then they started caressing each other's faces (ewwww) and then the girl started cleaning the guy's ear! Hahaha... That was so gross, we all got an intense laughing fit and I hardly maintained my balance on the chair :D After a few moments, we started to see again. The guy's face used to come near her's and would go back without doing anything as the girl would push him forwards! Lol. This happened thrice and then I think both of them got to know that somebody's watching them (AND laughing at them too) :P But they didn't move. They stayed there and held each other's hands. Uff, people are so brave!!!! :D

I stay till 1:30 or 2:30 pm at the univeristy, they say I'd get to see more of such juicy events. :D

Cheerio folks =)

PS: I'm off to university. Class in half an hour. Got a quiz :/ Prayers needed.
