Mommeeeeeeeeeese

Posted by Dinky Mind on Wednesday, August 31, 2005
Last night, what happened...I was sleeping when I felt something strange. I opened my eyes, and screamed, Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! There was my Mommese who was leaning on me, and staring at my sleepy face. When I screamed, she calmed me down, "It's ok...It's just me". 'Oh', I closed my eyes again. But there she was sitting very close to me, kissing my hands, and patting me. I again opened my eyes, and foolishly asked, "کیا ھوا؟". And she said, "Nothing". I closed my eyes again, guessing she might have had a nightmare or something. After every few seconds I was opening and closing my eyes. And she must have sat there for 7-10 minutes. And at one moment I said, "آپ سو جائیں". And she kept silent. And then she left for her bed.

And today in the morning:
She: Why did you scream last night?
Me: I did?
She: Yes, and then it became hard for me to calm you down.
Me: *giggles* really?
She: *glares* YES
Me: Oh, I don't even remember that. And what was the time, when you came to me?
She: 2 or 2:30 am.
Me: A nightmare?
She: Sort of. You come and scare me in my dreams...haha
Me: And you come and scare me in my sleep....hahaha

My mom's the BESHT .... May Allah give her a long, healthy life. Amen.

*loadsa hugs your way*

Half-dead Birthday Mohtarma

Posted by Dinky Mind on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 in
Yes people, it's true. Every year, on 22nd or 23rd August, I become terribly ill. I don't know who prays for my ill health in these days. *grumbles* And then I feel alive on 25th August. 24th August is always spoiled! Errrr.

I have a vivid memory of these uncontrollable and unbearable incidents. In 2001, on 22nd August, I suffered from an unceasing episode of vomits. Sounds yucky, I know. But, imagine how I survived. Helpless me.

Then, in 2002, on 24th August, I went to have my Commercial Studies class at my tution centre. And over there, my teacher ordered a big creamy cake, without telling me. And when everything was perfectly set up, my friends dragged me out of the class, and took me the other room for Birthday Celebrations. And then those evil friends smashed a big piece of cake on my face. Aye! And I felt like vociferating as I hate such heavy creamy cakes, but I was again very helpless! Thankfully, there was a clean washroom. And I washed my face with 10 gallons of water, and 4 bars of soaps. But still, I was kinda fainting. Even today, nothing scares me more than cream cakes! And that year, I celebrated my birthday thrice!!!!! What a nice punishment!

Now, what happened in 2003. On 23rd August, Shancha brought a lot of packets of chips for me and my sister. And we were eating them as there is nothing else on the planet but chips. My sister, being a wise lady, stopped eating after we finished the first packet. But I, being the ultimate chips lover, unwrapped the second packet and started munching chips. And that was the time when the prayers of all those people, who hate me and my habit of eating chips, were answered. I fell ill. Started vomitting at 2 am. And couldn't sleep the whole night. Yeah. Helpless me!

23rd August, 2004. Last year, that is. I was having the worst kind of sore throat. We went to our relative's place. Over there, their daughter served us coke. And I accpeted the glass with a Thankyou. When she was gone, I realised how disastrous that chilled coke would be for me. (Yeah, Dinky Mind is like a tubelight). So, I looked helplessly towards Some Desi. And he said, "What happened?" I explained in whisperings that I could not drink the coke. So, he whispered back, "Allright. You just keep the glass on the table. When I'll finish my coke, I'll drink yours." I was very relieved to hear that. And as we were sitting in a corner, we were being less noticed. But still, we tried to be alert. Lol. At one moment, I glanced towards the table on my left, and saw my glass untouched. I gave him those When-are-you-finishing-yours looks. And then, after a few moments, he kept his glass back and picked up mine. But the way he did it, made me smile. Thank God, I didn't laugh, cuz I always tend to have an uncontrollable giggling fit at the worst possible time. Hahaha... But the moment we left their place, we all laughed badly. It still makes me laugh. =)

And today, 24th August, 2005, I experienced the worst kind of headache in the evening (well, can say, night). When I came back from my class at 8:15 pm, my head seemed to become a solid rock being crushed with a hammer. Bahhhhhh. Then, I took 2 tablets of Disprin; my dearest friend in such times. And after 30 minutes, I felt alive again. Then, fever attacked me. Thankfully, it was a slight fever. So, I am feeling better now. Alhamdolillah. But, at 11:45 pm, I had pizza and coke. And since I was the birthday girl, my brother was kinda stuffing my mouth with pizza triangles. Gosh...that was funny....but became troubling after some time. I started feeling very very bad, like....like I dunno what!

And then, at 11:49 pm, I recieved a message. Anonymous number! But the sender was kind enough to add his name at the end. It was Hidden Id. Not hidden anymore. Thanks, anyway. Waisay is your watch 11 minutes ahead of mine, or what?

I recieved another message at 11:54 pm. I guess there's a problem with my clock settings. Err.. Anyways, this was from another anonymous number...And the anonymous sender is wishing me a happy birthday, and sending me a gift and flowers. But s/he didn't mention his/her name. So, whoever has sent me this message, tell me your name sharafat sey, warna............................................ warna main thankyou ka reply nahi karoun gee. <:o)

Then, at 12 am, my daddy wished me, and then my mom, and then everybody else. It was so good. We all were sitting out in the lawn, in the cool breeze. OMG. I can't tell how happy I felt at that time. Alhamdolillah, am so loved by all. :)

I also recieved a message from the sweetest Ras-Gulllay at 12:48 am. She has written, "Urgh. I forgot @ sharp to greet you HAPPY BIRTHDAY." Well Gul, you can wish me now. It's not that late ;) [ufff...kis ka asar aa gaya hay? Lol]

And not to forget my sweet Fa aapi, who wished me in advance. Am sooooo happyyyy... Please come online nowww... Missssssinggggg youuuuuuuuu. *hugs*

Then, BiYA & Anny bhai called me...and they wished me... And then we talked a lot, when Mommese snatched the phone from my hand, and started talking to BiYA. Lol!

And then there are my school friends, Maheen and Musty, who are so great to wish me. And how can I forget Barry, who came online today after a decade. Lol. Barrryyyy is my besht friend. We talked a little. And then, as usual, we had to say bye to each other soon :( I hate that time. Also, Zeeyaaa and SN wished me. And now Saadie has wished me. I hope, am not missing anybody.

So people, it's party time!!!!!!

<:o)

Stay coooool.

Interview result

Posted by Dinky Mind on Friday, August 19, 2005 in ,
FINALLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I called Bahria university at 11:58 am today to ask about my interview result, and the lady on the phone said, "The result is displayed out on the notice board" After a pause, she added, "and you can also check it on the website after 12"

hmmm...2 minutes!!!!!!

But then, I got busy in some work, and now 2 hours have been passed. So, here's the resultttttttt. My number is 395 for BBA program. Now this time, they have written my name correctly. Tomorrow, InshAllah, I will go to the university. [It should be open].

For all the people who prayed for me, I've got a chocolate-chip cookie (yes, just one cookie) ....so, share it among yourselves. I know you all will do justice with the cookie :)

BUT, BUT, BUT

I am also planning to join SZABIST, for they are offering BS (Econ.). Now the last date of submission of form to SZABIST is 3rd Sept.

Keep praying people :)

Watcha lookin' at?

Posted by Dinky Mind on Friday, August 19, 2005 in

MashAllah, we've got a lot of... a lottttt of cats in our colony [2-3 cats per house]. This is one of the two who daily come to our place and say Meoww to us [Hi in their language]. And we reply with our angry meoww meoww to keep them away from our kitchen door [Get lost in our language].

Now this one, over here, is sitting under the gate, and trying to say, "Stop staring at me, allright. I can enter this place by any means."
And this is so right. We've got dogs, cats, mice, and lizards in abundance over here. But the problem is that none of these animals eat the other. What an example of fraternity and brotherhood.

If these make you laugh

1-
The teacher of the earth science class was lecturing on map reading. After
explaining about latitude, longitude, degrees and minutes the teacher asked,
"Suppose I asked you to meet me for lunch at 23 degrees, 4 minutes north
latitude and 45 degrees, 15 minutes east longitude...?" After a confused
silence, a voice volunteered, "I guess you'd be eating alone."

2-
The math teacher saw that little Johnny wasn't paying attention in class. She
called on him and said, "Johnny! What are 2 and 4 and 28 and 44?" Little Johnny
quickly replied, "MTv, Star Moves, Channel-V and the Cartoon Network!"

3-
The Sunday School teacher described how Lot's wife looked back at Sodom and
was turned into a pillar of salt.
Suddenly one child interrupted. "My mom looked back once while she was
driving," the youngster announced, "and she turned into a telephone pole."

That's all folks.

5 + 5 = 25

Posted by Dinky Mind on Friday, August 12, 2005 in ,
In my O Levels, I used to make a lot of mistakes in math. I would always write
5 + 5 = 25. No matter how hard I try, my mind would always calculate this thing. To me 5x5=25 is as correct as 5+5=25. I would also write 3+3=9. *Yes, weird brain I've got*

Then, one day, my accounting teacher gave me a full-scape sheet of paper and asked me to write 5+5=10. And guess what I had to write 4 pages of this thing. Then the next day, he asked me to write 3+3=6. And it helped me a lot.

The day when I had my entry test exam, what I did, I wrote 5+5=10 and 3+3=9 on the question booklet....so that I don't forget it during my exam. ufff... Now, it's a good thing that the administration does not show corrected test papers, or.....

Still sometimes, I have to use a calculator to know if 4+4=16 or 8.

pray for my math please <:o)

Interview

Posted by Dinky Mind on Wednesday, August 10, 2005 in ,
I reached university at 3:55 pm. The interview had to start at 4 pm. (that's what I was told). Anyway, I waited in the waiting room for my turn. After a few minutes, I was directed to this interview room. There was a panel of 3 teachers. One examined my certificates, and the other checked my file. The third man was doing nothing but studying my gestures and facial geography. lol.

And then they started the interview.

Man 2: Umema Siddiqi?
Me: Yes, sir.
Man 1: *reading aloud my certifs* Ahan... Accounting, economics, business? So, you have done your A Levels?
Me: Yes, sir. *you have my A Levels certificates in your hand*
Man 2: So, what is economics?
Me: *answered them correctly*
Man 1: So, which market structure is better - monopoly or perfect competition?
Me: Sir, both have their advantages and disadvantages *told them a few advantages and disadvantages*
Man 3: So, you don't think R&D is an advantage for monopoly?
Me: *testing me?* It is! *told him the reason why*
Man1: Okay Umema, tell me if 2x(square) = 800, then what is the value of x?
Me: 20, sir. * I never knew I can calculate that fast. lol *
Man 1: So, what is the derivative of ________? *I forgot what he asked*
Me: *enough of math now* I am sorry sir, I studied math 2 years ago. *No doubt, am worst at math*
Man 1: Oh *as if saying 'no problem'*
Man 2: All right. Thankyou very much Umema.
Me: Oh. thankyou. *i have a habit of saying thankyou in reply to a thankyou.* err.

*leaves room*

So, it was fine. Not good. Not bad! Hope I get the admission. The final list would be published on 19th August. So late!

Don't stop praying. <:o)

Result or Re (in)sult?

Posted by Dinky Mind on Tuesday, August 09, 2005 in ,
Today (9th August), I recieved both of my results - BU, and AFK.

First let me tell you about BU. It was about 4 pm, when Gullay messaged me and asked about my result. I told her my net hours expired. She then asked me to call BU and ask them about my result. Therefore, I called them, and there was a lady who redirected my call to another person. Now, here's the convo:

He: Hello,
Me: Assalam-o-alaikum, Sir. I wanted to know about admission test results.
He: Yes, the results are outside BU on a notice board.
Me: And you people don't tell on the phone?
He: Ok. Which program?
Me: BBA, Sir.
He: Your number?
Me: Its 395.
He: (as if checking the list) Threeeeeeee.....niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiineee....fiiiiiiiiive
*silence*
He: What is your number?
Me: (annoyed) 3-9-5 SIR!
He: oh, yeah... Threeeeee...niiiiine....five! Umema?
Me: Yes, sir. Umema Amin Siddiqi.
He: Umema Min?
Me: No, Umema Amin. (now tell me - pass or fail?)
He: Yes, I was also thinking it must be Amin and not Min. Let me correct it.
Me: (correct it afterwards...first tell me have I passed or not?) *legs trembling*
He: Ummm, Umema. You have passed! You have an interview on 10th at 4 pm.
Me: (confirming) 10th? That is tomorrow?
He: Yes, tomorrow actually!
Me: Thankyou.. Allah Hafiz
He: Allah Hafiz

Alhamdolillah! Am glad... have cleared one obsticle now!

Now the Alliance Francaise de Karachi's (AFK) result!
At 5 pm, I called AFK.

Me: Assalam-o-alaikum. Wanted to know about N2-C's result.
She: Yes, it's here.
Me: Thanks.

So, at 6:!5 pm, I went to AFK to find the result. And here's what I saw on the list of N2 - C

Student--------Written (/40) ------Oral (/60) ----Total (/100) ----Grade

Mahin Saad.............. .40.............................43.................83.................Assez Bien.
Kiran Musharraf..... .32.............................07.................39..................Non recu.
Atiqa..........................--...............................--..................--...................Absent
Muhammad Anjum..38.............................44.................82..................Tres bien.
Umema Siddiqi........40..............................52.................92...................Excellent
Imran Yusuf.............--...............................--..................--....................Absent
Ashok Deepak.........37...............................22.................59...................Passable.
Babar.......................38...............................50................88....................Tres bien.
Saba........................--..................................--.................--....................Absent
Jahanzaib..............40..................................51...............91....................Excellent
Farhan...................37.................................39...............76.................... Bien

And I think Monsieur Maqsood's name was not in the list. Well, I will go and check it again. Because he was the man (he's 50+) who tried to cheat in the exam. And he did cheat. And the teacher caught him cheating. And she cancelled one of his 20-marked answer. He didn't even appear in the speaking test. And I don't know why his name wasn't in the list.

I thank all my friends who prayed for my results, and who remembered when it was going to announce, and who reminded me am not that bad in studies. Keep praying for my interview, which is tomorrow.

That's all folks.

Deception Point

Posted by Dinky Mind on Monday, August 08, 2005 in
Yes, finally, I have finished reading this book. GOOD, which means 'not bad'. Lol. And after reading other three books by Dan Brown, I was sure either Tench, or that Pickering were creating problems. And am glad Tench died (how evil of me...lol). Sorry all present and prospective readers of Deception Point, I know am spoiling all the fun and suspence...but what can I say, am happy that what I expected to happen in the book, happened! <:o)

I read Brown's books in this order:
1~ Angels & Demons.
2~ The Da Vinci Code.
3~ Digital Fortress.
4~ Deception Point.

Although all books are great and are a pleasure to read, but I find Digital Fortress to be the best. Now, I have started reading 'The World in 2020' by Hamish McRae.

And oh, my French result is still not here. Some day, this evil receptionist will ___________

Enough for today... Have got a lot to do tomorrow, and lot to face as well!

Keep praying!

Finally

Posted by Dinky Mind on Friday, August 05, 2005 in
I don't care if you like it or not, but now I have transferred all ky Haloscan's comments on Blogger comments. This was a pretty hectic job! And seriously, am dead tired. You can see the time - 3:06 am - and guess what, I started doing this tranferring thing at midnight, exactly!
My eyelids are closing now. My neck is rather at a strange angle, almost dangling. Am having the worst kind of pain in my shoulders and arms. So much so, that it seems to me they will break right away. Now I don't need to say anything about my ever-aching head. And after so much typing, my fingers......*screams* oh myGod, they have disappeared!

*moves neck left-right to get some relief from pain* Gosh, I need to stop doing that. That's making it worse!

I really really realllly feel like taking off my head and keeping it on a nice, soft couch for some rest!

Prayers needed.
